Pre-race routine:
Half a bagel with iced coffee.
Event warmup:
got in the lake and swam a good 100 or so to get a feel for the bathwater-like temperature!
started in middle of pack and had a fast 1st half. minimal contact and sighting was perfect. I hip drafted a guy and used him to sight as he was a tab bit faster than me but sighted a lot and would slow each time he popped out, so i side sighted him and prayed he led me home!
What would you do differently?:
Swim harder.

The run from water to bike was LONG! especially since i was in the front racks.Flying bike mount went well.

I got a cramp at the end of the ride. also since the course was so “technical” and I was so concerned with keeping from being passed by anyone, that I wasn’t drinking anything. (probably the reason why I cramped).

Had to take a moment to suck down some electrolytes as i didnt drink on the ride much.
What would you do differently?:
Go faster, drink more
This course is brutally hot and awkward. uneven gravel surfaces and tight passing paths and radiating heat make the run uncomfortable.
I had a cramp the whole time from the bike ride in my right rib and it would only allow me to run a certain speed before it would just radiate in pain. So I basically was trotting the whole run.
What would you do differently?:
stop less and drench myself to keep cool
Post race
Warm down:
lemonade and an apple as I cheered in everyone else.

What limited your ability to perform faster:
heat, not eonough fluid intake and cramps.
Event comments:
Same as last year. Poor spectator support. Parking sucked.
